Adept were contacted by KidsOut when they wanted to take their online presence to the next level while also launching a number of new initiatives. Adept worked closely with the charity to create both their main charity website and the World Stories website which was aimed at school age children.
The previous KidsOut website did not properly reflect the work that the charity was doing and was not able to provide the features the charity required such as the ability to take payments online. Adept worked with KidsOut to define a set of requirements, define an appropriate information architecture and create a content manageable website that would help the charity move forwards with their online marketing.
The website has a variety of features including members’ areas for supporters, schools and partners, online booking for corporate events and e-commerce facilities for selling merchandise.
The World Stories website was a separate project that ran alongside the development of the main website. KidsOut came to Adept with the concept of having a site for school children that featured multi-lingual stories in the 20 most commonly spoken languages in UK schools. Adept worked with the charity to turn their ideas into a properly thought out website that was both easily navigable and visually attractive to the audience.
Most of the stories feature illustrations, video animations and MP3 downloads as well as the story featured in both its native language and English. Visitors to the website are encouraged to interact with the site by choosing how the story made them feel from a number of different emotion icons. Additionally the website links to a members’ area on the KidsOut main website where teachers and parents can sign up to access additional materials and teaching resources.
