MedicAlert provide an essential service to their 300,000 members through the provision of engraved medical alert emblems and a 24/7 emergency telephone service where trained staff can provide additional details of a member’s condition to medical staff.
MedicAlert wanted to improve their online marketing, and give website visitors an improved experience when browsing the MedicAlert website. The website had two key focusses, the first providing information about the charity and the second allowing visitors to browse the catalogue of jewellery, make a purchase and become a member of the organisation.
Adept worked with MedicAlert to explore the different ways these goals could be achieved, and to define the requirements for the store component of the website. A modern, e-commerce system was developed that allows visitors to browse the catalogue of jewellery by filtering the products by various criteria.
The product pages were designed to give the visitors good information about the product, including high quality images that can be zoomed to see more detail, and clear details regarding the options that the product has, such as size and colour. In order to provide visitors with more details and confidence in the products, customer reviews and ratings are also shown on the website.
The checkout process for the store had to be highly customised in order to provide the functionality required by MedicAlert. Visitors can choose either to become a member or to renew an existing membership while they make their purchase. A series of forms gather the necessary personal and medical information from the visitor in order for MedicAlert to process their membership.
On completion of an order, the details are passed to MedicAlert’s trained staff to review before the membership and order is processed through an internal database system.
The website launched in 2011 and Adept are continuing to work with MedicAlert to further enhance the website for visitors with further integration with the MedicAlert internal database and by providing additional payment options to visitors.
