BID Services work in partnership with people with a sensory impairment, as well as those with a physical disability or mental health, providing high quality services and support. Adept were chosen to roll out a newly established brand identity online. The previous website was not only dated visually, but its structure was not flexible for the needs of the charity. It was also hard to update.
The website has three main audiences: Service Users, Supporters and Employees. Through meetings with BID Services, a new website architecture was created that organised the website sections better, making it easier for users to navigate and find information relevant to them, as well as allowing for future growth of the website. Following this, a wireframing phase helped establish the structure of individual pages and how the content needed to be presented.

As a large percentage of the audience suffer from a disability of some degree, accessibility was a key factor for the website. Adept ran accessibility tests on colours, font sizes and design styles to ensure that the site was easy for anyone to use. An accessibility tool menu was added to the top of the website allowing font sizes to be increased and for black and white and high contrast display options to be switched on for people with severe visual impairments. The use of large buttons, large images and a strict web link highlighting system also makes it easy for any user to navigate. Major content pages also feature a BSL page translation for people who struggle to read the site. This is implemented through YouTube videos embedded into a video light box.
An issue with the old website was the inability to easily add and organise job vacancies. Adept created a jobs board area where job details and downloads could be added quickly and easily through the content management system.
The site works as a fundraising tool, showing people how to fundraise, volunteer or donate. It integrates with BID Services’ existing Virgin Money giving account to easily handle donations. Social media integration allows any page to be shared effortlessly to the popular social media channels.
The website is designed to work seamlessly on tablets and mobile devices through the use of modern cross-compatible techniques, and through the implementation of a responsive design to optimise the site when viewed on small screens such as mobiles.
The website has been well received and has given BID Services a platform to go from strength to strength.
